Jon Copeland was named to the HERO Sports Sophomore All-America honorable mention team, while
Jaylon Jimmerson earned HERO Sports Freshman All-America honorable mention team honors, announced Tuesday.

This is Copeland's second All-America accolade. He was also chosen for the HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-America Team following the 2018 season.

"I'm incredibly proud of both Jon and Jaylon," said Morris. "For Jaylon to come in and play as well as he did as a true freshman is a testament to his drive and work ethic. Jon, returning as a sophomore, continued to improve on the field and as a leader on this team. I'm happy that both of them have earned this honor."

Copeland broke several records for the Cardinals in his second season at UIW. He threw for 3,341 yards, breaking the program record for single-season passing yards (which he set in 2018). His 3,341 passing yards also set a program record for total offensive yards in a single season. The Arygle, Texas, native completed 298 passes out of 507 attempts, both of which broke the program records.

Copeland set the program record for touchdowns responsible for in a single season (26), as well as the career record for touchdown passes with 44 through his first two years.

Jimmerson played a vital role on the UIW defense. The freshman ranked third on the team with 55 tackles, including 29 unassisted and 26 assisted. He also recorded three tackles for a loss and one sack.

The highlight of Jimmerson's season was a team-best four interceptions, which he returned for 76 yards. Additionally, the Pittsburg, Texas, native returned nine kickoffs for 187 yards, averaging 20.8 yards per kick return, and had a long kick return of 30 yards. For his efforts, Jimmerson also earned third team All-Southland Conference accolades.
