NATCHITOCHES, Texas – The season came to an end for the University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team Saturday morning at Northwestern State as the team fell 3-1.
NOTABLES
- Presley Blaylock led the team with 23 assists in the match. Blaylock also added an ace and a pair of digs.
- On the attack, UIW was led Julia Monday and Bethany Clapp who both finished with 13 kills each.
- Alyssa Carlin had her second straight 20+ dig match and her fourth in six games as she recorded 20 digs on the morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (22-25) | The first set had the Cardinals playing catch-up as Northwestern State held the lead for most of the set. The score went back-and-forth early with five lead changes and ties. UIW found themselves down 16-12 late in the set before scoring four straight points behind an ace by Blaylock and a kill by Clapp. But that was as close as the Cardinals would get as the Lady Demons closed off the set.
SET 2 (25-19) | It was another early fight that saw six ties and lead changes within the first 12 points of the set. The Cardinals found themselves pulling away after two kills by Clapp and one by McGarity gave them a three-point lead at 9-6. Senior Allison Waits had four kills in the set to lead the team to the set victory.
SET 3 (15-25) AND SET 4 (19-25) | NSU jumped out early in the third set taking a 13-3 lead that the Cardinals weren't able to overcome. But the fourth set was much closer as the teams battled through eight lead changes. With the score tied at 13-13, the Lady Demons were able to score four straight points which allowed them to take control of the set.
SEASON RECAP
- The Cardinals finished conference play 3-5 after an 0-8 start including wins over New Orleans, Lamar and ACU.
- Julia Monday and Bethany Clapp finished with over 300 kills each.
- Alyssa Carlin played solid defense all season with over 400 digs.
SENIOR SEASON
- Cameron Taylor- Finished her senior season with 144 kills, 91 digs, 46 blocks (3 solo, 43 assists) and 16 aces.
- Allison Waits- Compiled 104 kills, 27 digs, 26 blocks (1 solo and 25 assists) and 4 aces in her senior season.
