SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Air Force on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:
UIW and Air Force split control of the ball in the first half, with the Cardinals recording five shots and the Falcons accumulating four shots. UIW scored first in the 16th minute as
Kevin Gutia, assisted by Johnathan Diaz, netted a goal to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. Air Force responded in the 42nd minute to tie the game and end the half with a score of 1-1.
SECOND HALF:
Both teams continued to share equal possession in the second half as Air Force recorded six shots and UIW racked up four shots. The Cardinals started the second half halting two of the Falcons' shots, but the Falcons broke through in the 65th minute, scoring a goal to take a 2-1 lead. Air Force added to their lead with a penalty kick goal in the 82nd minute to put the Falcons up 3-1. UIW continued to attack the ball to cut their deficit, accumulating two shots on goal and a corner kick in the last 10 minutes of regulation, but were unable to net anything, falling 3-1 to Air Force.
