Women’s soccer readies for final regular season homestand versus ACU

SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team hosts Abilene Christian University for its final regular-season game at home on Friday night. The Military Appreciation game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. CT.

THE CARDINALS
UIW comes into their final regular-season game off a weekend of two endurance matches that each went into double overtime. Their most recent outing concluded in a heartbreaker, with an SFA goal in the 107th minute to end the match at 1-0. The Cardinals, who knocked out 28 shots with 13 corner kicks, dominated the match in possession.
 
The weekend saw UIW net three goals with 12 shots on frame. Keeley Ayala ranks fourth in the conference with 64 shots (21st nationally) and third in goals with eight in SLC play. Senior Brooke Hanson is ranked third in the conference in assists with seven, while Ayala and Hanson are second and third in game-winning goals with five and three, respectively.
 
Net-minder Cailey Croson tacked on her seventh season shutout with 12 saves in 192 minutes of action.
 
SCOPING THE ACU WILDCATS
Friday's match for the Wildcats (11-4-2, 7-2-1 SLC) will break apart the current tie ACU holds with Northwestern State as second seed in the conference.
 
ACU comes into Friday's match after two shutout wins, most recently topping Sam Houston State 1-0 at home. The match saw the Wildcats outshoot the Bearkats 26-10 with six corner kicks to push the charge that would secure ACU's win with an early second half goal.
 
Christina Arteaga, Emily Heidman and Alyssa Anuat each racked up three or more shots on the match, with Anuat earning SLC Defensive Player of the Week.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals set for their first appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament in program history, spanning from Nov. 6-10 in Conway, Ark. Seeding positions will be allocated and set following the conclusion of Friday night's final game.
