SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team set the pace, but in the end the Cardinals fell in the second overtime period, 1-0, to Stephen F. Austin in Sunday's matchup at Benson Field. Prior to the game, UIW celebrated Senior Day.
This marked back-to-back 2OT games for UIW.
NOTABLES
- UIW outshot SFA on the match and held possession for most of the match, tallying 28 shots in 107 minutes.
- Forward Keeley Ayala racked up 10 shots.
- Goalkeeper Cailey Croson saved four of four shots posted on frame from SFA's squad, leaving regulation play with a clean sheet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half of regulation saw the Cardinals set up multiple scoring opportunities off seven corner kicks, outshooting the SFA Ladyjacks 14-1. Though UIW maintained its push to hold possession, the half ended scoreless.
UIW came into the second half with the same intensity as the first, focusing this time on the defensive side.
Cailey Croson accumulated three of her four saves in the second half and the UIW defenders limited SFA to just six shots on goal. With no goals scored, regulation ended 0-0 to lead into the first overtime period.
Overtime began solely in UIW's control. The Cardinals put off four shots in the first 10 minutes and did not allow the Ladyjacks any, but they were unable to put any shots in the back of the net and the game went into the second overtime.
The Ladyjacks found the net with the golden goal in the 107th minute, securing the 1-0 win over UIW.

The Cardinals are set to host their final game of the regular season as Abilene Christian University comes to San Antonio on Nov. 1. Kickoff for this Military Appreciation Game is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
