BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fell, 4-0, to California State University-Bakersfield on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:
UIW used five shots and five corner kicks in an attempt to reach the back of the net, while CSUB countered with five shots and a corner kick. The Roadrunners scored their first goal in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 advantage. CSUB added on to its lead, reaching the back of the net again in the 28th minute, to increase its lead to 2-0. Motivated to get on the board, the Cardinals fired off four shots and utilized two corner kicks, but they were unable to get the ball into the net, ending the first half with a 2-0 CSUB lead.
SECOND HALF:
The Cardinals fired off two shots and three corner kicks to start the half, but still did not find the net. The defense stepped up to halt three of CSUB's shots to start the second period, but the Roadrunners scored their third goal in the 61st minute to extend their lead to 3-0. The Cardinals continued to halt the Roadrunner advances, blocking three shots and two corner kicks, while UIW countered with two shots. CSUB scored its fourth goal in the 77th minute to take a 4-0 lead. The Cardinals fired off two more shots and one corner kick but ultimately fell to CSUB, 4-0.
