SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team is set to host Sam Houston State University on Friday with kickoff at 5 p.m. CT.
Admission to all UIW home women's and men's soccer games is free.
THE GAME
UIW LAST TIME OUT
The Cardinals (6-2 SLC) went 1-1 on the weekend last time out in their two away games, first blanking the McNeese Cowgirls, 2-0, on Friday (Oct. 18). UIW opened the scoring plays on the match with a
Brooke Hanson goal in the ninth minute to give UIW the advantage.
Hannah Walsh had the first goal of her career moments later. On the game, UIW's offense tallied 11 shots (six on frame) with four corners to secure its 2-0 win.
Sunday's match against Lamar (Oct. 20) saw the Cardinals come from behind after an early LU.
Jade Piper and Hanson both scored to give UIW the advantage. The Cardinals held the lead, 2-1,for the majority of regulation play, but two late goals for Lamar edged out UIW in the 3-2 loss.
Hanson goes into this weekend tied for fourth in the SLC with six assists, while forward
Keeley Ayala is fourth in points (23) and third in goals (11).
SCOUTING THE BEARKATS
Sam Houston State (5-2-1 SLC) is currently tied for third in SLC play with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Abilene Christian and Northwestern State.
The Bearkats are coming off a two-game winning streak at home, where they bested Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls in shutout fashion, 2-0 and 3-0, respectively.
True freshman Tatum Krueger was named SLC Goalkeeper Player of the Week after a weekend of two shutouts on 13 shots faced.
UP NEXT
