Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team controlled the match but ultimately fell to Lamar, 3-2, Sunday after a last-minute goal lifted Lamar to the win.

Heading into the match UIW and Lamar stood tied in Southland Conference regular season play with identical standings of 6-1, both only having lost to Northwestern State in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
UIW set the tone early on taking shots within a minute of the first whistle. Lamar was quick to respond with a goal in the 16th minute to take the lead. UIW didn't take long to respond with a goal of their own at the 20-minute mark, when
Jade Piper found the back of the net off a pass from
Brooke Hanson, 1-1.

On the match, UIW's offense racked up 15 shots with six on frame toward the net.

Hungry for more, UIW's
Brooke Hanson netted a tie-splitter in the 36th for the 2-1 lead heading into the break. UIW kept possession to maintain the lead for 50 minutes, where the defensive line denied LU advances to feed the ball up the UIW line.

Cailey Croson ended the match with five saves on 22 shots faced.

Lamar scored back-to-back goals in the 87th and 88th minutes, leaving UIW with virtually no time to respond, losing by a score of 3-2.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals finish out the regular season with a three game homestand, beginning with a 5 p.m. standoff with Sam Houston State University on Oct. 25.
