SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fell, 1-0, in overtime to University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon.
 
NOTABLES

• Miguel Velasquez led the Cardinals with four shots, including two on target.
• Kas Van Eekelen recorded four shots with one on goal.
• Victor Velasco also contributed to the offense with three shots (one on target).

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
FIRST HALF:
The Cardinals took command early, firing off seven shots and utilizing three corner kicks in an attempt to set up plays in the first period. The Rebels countered with three shots and no corner kicks. Both teams deployed their strong defense to go scoreless into the break.
 
SECOND HALF:
UIW worked around UNLV's strong defense to strike off 10 shots and take advantage of five corner kicks towards UNLV's net in an attempt to take the advantage. The Rebels countered with three shots and four corner kicks, but the Cardinals successfully halted their advances. Regulation time ended with a 0-0 draw.
 
OVERTIME: 
The teams battled for possession, but the defenses held strong preventing much offensive action. In the 94.th minute UNLV managed to get the ball in the attacking third for one of their players to sneak one past the defense into the net for a 1-0 golden goal victory over UIW.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals hit the road for their last travel weekend of the season, at CSU-Bakersfield on Friday. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. at Main Soccer Field.
