THE UIW CARDINALS' LAST TIME OUT
Â
UIW comes back to Texas to enter Sunday's matchup after a major 2-0 shutout road win against McNeese (Oct. 18). This win kept the Cardinals atop SLC play and also solidified the program's first postseason appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament.
Â
Friday night's match against the Cowgirls highlighted the Cardinals' impressive defense. Two early goals from
Brooke Hanson and
Hannah Walsh set the tone for the match, and defense followed suit to protect the net at all costs. Any and all Cowgirl advances were halted before goalkeeper
Cailey Croson's territory. Croson was in her prime in the net, racking up four crucial saves on the match.
Â
SCOPING LAMAR
Â
The Lamar Cardinals' last time out also improved their SLC standings to 6-1 as they defeated Abilene Christian University with an impressive 6-4 final regulation score. LU's sole loss in SLC play is identical to UIW's, in a close dropped overtime decision to Northwestern State University (Sept. 27).
Â
LU's defeat over ACU boasted 21 shots on the match to net six goals. Both teams presented stellar offense with seven corner kicks on the match. Lucy Ashworth and Esther Okoronkwo led the Lamar Cardinals offense with six shots.
Â
UP NEXT
The Cardinals finish out the regular season with a three game homestand, beginning with a 5 p.m. standoff with Sam Houston State University on Oct. 25.
