HOUSTON -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team earned its first conference win, defeating Houston Baptist University, 1-0, on Sunday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF:
UIW recorded only one shot in the first period, while HBU countered with five shots. The Cardinals defense was solid as the Huskies recorded four off-target shots and only one on target, which
Carlos Mercado saved. After a quiet first half, the score was tied at 0-0.

SECOND HALF:
After two shots and two corner kicks to start the second half, the offensively recharged Cardinals were able to score the go-ahead goal when
Miguel Velasquez found the back of the net in the 67th minute, giving UIW a 1-0 advantage. UIW's defense stayed strong, halting the Huskies eight shots to protect the Cardinals lead. UIW remained stable to take a 1-0 victory over HBU.
