Cardinals drop road contest at UCA

CONWAY, Ark. -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell to the UCA Sugar Bears, 74-43, Wednesday night at the Farris Center in Conway, Ark.

NOTABLES
  • Freshman forward Starr Omozee led the team with 13 points and nine rebounds, four off the offensive glass.
  • Omozee tied a season high with five mace free throws in the effort.
  • Junior guard Imani Robinson recorded 13 points as well in the loss. She has now recorded 10+ points in three of four conference games and five of her last six contests overall.
  • Redshirt senior guard Gabbi Bowie hit two three-point shots, her first game with multiple made threes this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
QTR 1 (7-20): The Sugar Bears used a 12-0 run to establish the early lead. UIW broke the lid on the basket late in the quarter, but turnovers continued to plague the Cardinals throughout the frame. Bowie led the team on the score sheet with three points.

QTR 2 (16-40): UCA employed a steady dose of offensive rebounds and perimeter jumpers to widen the gap in the second quarter. Robinson found her stroke, hitting five points on 2-3 shooting. But the Sugar Bears led by 24 at the break.

QTR 3 (34-55): The Cardinals came out of halftime on a mission, hustling for loose balls and contesting every shot on their way to an 8-2 run through the opening 2:25. The renewed energy was felt on the glass, where the Cardinals out-rebounded UCA 9-6 in the quarter, including an impressive 5-2 on the offensive glass. Omozee had a great quarter, putting up five points and four rebounds in just over seven minutes of work.

QTR 4 (56-76):  The momentum couldn't carry itself over to the fourth as the Cardinals, once again, struggled to get the ball through the hoop. By the final whistle, UCA led by 31 for its first SCL victory of the season.
