SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word football team has altered its football schedule and will face Iowa State on Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. (CT) on MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. The game will telecast on
Cyclones.tv.
Â
The contest against the Cyclones replaces UIW's matchup with North Alabama, which was originally scheduled for Nov. 15.
Â
"This is a great opportunity for us to play a Power 5 team at a great venue," said Director of Athletics
Dr. Brian Wickstrom. "This will help us provide a better student-athlete experience and will be an exciting trip for the team. This is also a chance to take our brand to the Midwest, which will be great for the university as a whole."
Â
Iowa State's season-opening contest was cancelled due to inclement weather, providing an open week for the Cyclones.
Â
The game will be contested unless Iowa State qualifies for the Big 12 Championship Game or UIW qualifies for the FCS Playoffs.
Â
"We are excited to add this game to our schedule," said UIW Head Football Coach
Eric Morris. "This is an opportunity to reward our student-athletes for their hard work, both in the classroom and on the field. We'll have two more weeks of practice and are excited for the opportunity to play in Jack Trice Stadium." Â
Â
With the change, Senior Day, originally scheduled for Nov. 15, will now be celebrated on Nov. 3 against Sam Houston State. The move to a Saturday allows for a bigger and more festive Senior Day celebration. Friends and family are welcome to the UIW campus to root for their senior players who gave their all this season.
Â
Fans who bought season tickets can apply the funds for the North Alabama game to any home sporting event for the 2018-19 season or towards football season tickets for 2019. It can also be transferred to donation credit.
Â
Moving the game originally scheduled on Nov. 15 to Dec. 1 will also allow UIW staff to focus on final preparations for "Light the Way," UIW's signature Christmas event scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17. "Light the Way" is the University's gift to San Antonio and the surrounding community.  The event features all the traditional holiday favorites including a visit from Santa, a Holiday Shoppe, musical performances, illuminating the campus with a million twinkling lights and a fireworks finale.
