Men's soccer battles, falls at SMU

DALLAS, Texas--Â The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fell, 1-0, Friday night against SMU at Westcott Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:The UIW defense stepped up big in the first half, blocking each of the Mustangs' six shots.
Carlos Mercado recorded two saves. The Cardinals had four shots of their own, but the teams entered the break scoreless.Â

SECOND HALF: SMU continued their offensive aggression to open the second half, but the Cardinal defense remained stout and held the home team scoreless. SMU scored the lone goal of the match in the 59th minute.  The Cardinals found an offensive rhythm in the second half, taking seven shots.
Darius Feldman registered two shots in the second half and had a team-high three shots in the game. Mercado notched two more saves to make four total for the night.

The Cardinals host Central Arkansas in their home opener on Sept. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Benson Stadium.
