Men's soccer ties UCA in double-overtime home opener
SAN ANTONIO, Texas-- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team ended Friday night with a 2-2 tie against UCA after two overtime periods at Benson Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:
UIW started its home opener with an offensive charge, recording seven shots in the first half. Central Arkansas countered with 4 shots.
Kas Van Eekelen led UIW, scoring the Cardinals' first goal of the season in the 6th minute.
Thomas Bibby tacked on a goal of his own in the 32nd minute to give UIW a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
SECOND HALF:
Central Arkansas came into the second half recharged and Niklas Brodacki tied the game with two goals. The Cardinals continued to show a strong offense with six shots in the period, but the second half ended in a tie (2-2).
OVERTIME:
The first overtime was defense heavy, neither team allowing a single shot. In the second overtime, the Cardinals resurged with four shots, two of them by
Rob Lemmens. Central Arkansas countered with one shot, but neither team was able to score and the game ended with a 2-2 tie.

UCA: 2-1-1
UP NEXT
The Cardinals host Oral Roberts on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. (CT) at Benson Stadium.
