SAN ANTONIO-- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team fell to the University of Houston Cougars, 2-0, in its 2018 home opener at Benson Stadium.

Cailey Croson recorded seven saves, marking a career best for the sophomore.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Incarnate Word defense held tough throughout the first half, with Croson coming up with several clutch saves. In the 21st minute, a Cougar header off a corner kick resulted in the only goal of the half, leaving UIW trailing 1-0 entering the break.
The Cardinals stepped up their aggressive offensive play in the second half. The team posted a season-high seven shots, led by 
Emani Stewart, who had three shots on goal. The second Cougar goal occurred in the 87th minute, securing the 2-0 win for Houston.

UP NEXT
After a two-week break, the Cardinals return to action Sept. 9, hosting UTSA at home. The match against the Roadrunners is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT) at Benson Stadium.
