MORAGA, Calif. -- After two exhibition games, the University of the Incarnate Word's men's soccer team opens its regular season Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) at St. Mary's University.
THE GAME
THE CARDINALS
- UIW played two exhibition games during the preseason, at home against St. Edwards and at neighborhood rival Trinity.
- The Cardinals play their first official game under interim head coach Chris Fidler.
- Senior Marjan Gamsjager led the Cardinals' offense last season, earning All-WAC honorable mention for his efforts.
- The Cardinals and the Gaels have never met on the soccer pitch.
THE OPPONENT
- This is St. Mary's regular season opener after exhibition games last week against Stanford and Cal.
- The Gaels were 6-6-5 last season but were undefeated at home.
- The Gaels return their top four scorers from last year including Jake Rudel, who led all Saint Mary's players with six goals.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals continue their West Coast road trip Sunday at the University of California's Edwards Stadium in Berkeley. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. (CT).
