UIW Women’s Basketball Faces Final Road Test at HBU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will play its final road game of the season on Wednesday as the squad travels I10 East for a 7 p.m. matchup with Houston Baptist at Sharp Gym.
 
OPENING TIP
 
Two teams statistically eliminated for Southland Conference Tournament contention, the Cardinals (4-23, 3-13 SLC) and Huskies (9-17, 5-11 SLC), will fight to end their 2017-18 season on a high note. UIW hopes to avenge a 58-56 loss to HBU back on Jan. 24, while the Huskies will look to sweep their season series against the Cardinals for the first time in two years.

Summary: HBU finished 6-22 last season, including a 4-14 mark against Southland Conference competition. The Huskies are currently 9-17 overall and 5-11 in league play. HBU is coming off of a 67-61 victory over McNeese on Saturday at home.
 
The Huskies average 61.5 points, while surrendering 67.8 per contest. HBU shoots 39.1 percent from the floor and 27.2 percent from three-point range, while allowing 37.6 percent and 30.6 percent respectively. The Huskies hold a +0.8 rebounding margin and a -4.5 turnover margin this season.
 
HBU is led by junior guard Amanda Johnson, who averages 15.2 points, 4.2 boards and 1.4 assists. Junior center Veronika Kirienko pulls down a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game, to go along with 5.7 points. Sophomore guard Britta Daub averages 4.0 points, 3.4 boards, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals.

HBU owns a 9-1 advantage in the all-time series with UIW. The Huskies picked up a 58-56 victory when the teams last met on Jan. 24 in San Antonio.
