ABILENE, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team fell to Abilene Christian University, 1-0, after a last-minute Wildcat goal. This concludes regular-season play for the Cardinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Goalkeeper
Sydney Huntsinger busted out 11 huge saves on the night to halt Wildcat advances. The first half concluded scoreless and filled with a fired up UIW offense. UIW tallied up 11 shots on the night, with nine on goal.
Strong Cardinal defense caused the Wildcats to fire up their strategy in the second, eventually netting the lone goal in the 87th minute to close the game, 1-0.
LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON
- Sydney Huntsinger protected the UIW net for 956 minutes this season, with 172 shots faced and 73 saves. In SLC play, she had a 0.906 save percentage in goal.
- Sam Batley led the Cardinals' charge with 30 shots on the season in 14 games played.
- Sabrina Martineau finished the season leading the team in goals scored and points with three and six, respectively.
- Ana Campa was a vital part of the Cardinal defense, consistently stepping up to halt opponent advances.
- Jade Piper's quickness and agility led to her racking up the most total minutes played on the season with 1,264. Piper also had 14 shots on goal for the Cardinals.
- Andrea Reyes encapsulated a true team mentality for her Cardinals, leading the team in assists.
