Men's soccer defeats CSUB
SAN ANTONIO-- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team ended its 2018 home season with a 3-1 win over California State University-Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon at Benson Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:
The Cardinals led the offensive attack in the first half with 10 shots. The Roadrunners countered with seven shots. UIW struck first with a goal by
Luis Garza in the 18th minute. A goal by Johnathan Diaz in the 43rd minute ended the first half with a score of 2-0 in favor of UIW.
SECOND HALF:
CSUB came into the second half with a refreshed offense, accumulating nine shots in the period. UIW countered with four shots. CSUB scored a goal in the 48th minute to get on the board and put the score at 2-1. UIW scored its third goal of the night in 68th minute, with a shot by
Darius Feldman assisted by
Isaac Arellano, to secure the 3-1 win.
LEADERS
- UIW center back Isaac Currie halted the Roadrunners advances with a strong defense throughout the match.
- Kas Van Eekelen led UIW with six shots, including five shots on goal.
- Ryan Goldsmith led CSUB with six shots, including three shots on goal.
- Rodrigo Sarmiento led CSUB with eight saves.
