DALLAS, Texas – With just seven minutes left in regulation, Cornell's George Pedlow scored from 12 yards out to tie the match, as the Big Red and The University of the Incarnate Word ended in a 2-2 double overtime stalemate on the opening day of the SMU Tournament Friday from Westcott Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIW (1-1-1) got on the board first as
Griffin Mallas headed a centering pass from
Trinidad Luna in the 15
th minute.
The score remained until the 34
th minute as Cornell's (0-0-1) Walter Prince scored from 10 yards out.
Three minutes later,
Thomas Bibby gave UIW the go-ahead goal from 12 yards out, assisted from
Ryan Osborne.
The Cardinals looked like they were going to win in regulation, but Cornell's Pedlow had other plans, as he scored the equalizer with seven minutes remaining. Charles Touche sent a cross pass into the box and Pedlow finished.
In the first overtime, UIW's
Brendan Brown made two saves three minutes apart to keep the match going. The Cardinals mounted the offensive pressure in the second OT, as both
Marjan Gamsjaeger and Luna had shots go wide in the final seconds.
LEADERS
Mallas and Bibby were the goal scorers for the Cardinals, while Luna and Osborne each registered a point with their helpers. Brown (1-1-1) made three saves in the match.
For Cornell, Prince and Pedlow scored, while Touche registered an assist. Eric Nuss had a match-high three shots. In goal, Ryan Shellow stopped one shot for the Big Red.

UIW concludes the SMU Tournament against Oakland (Mich.) on Sunday, Sept. 3 at noon.
