TULSA, Okla. – A goal two minutes into the second half was all the scoring Oral Roberts needed, as The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team lost their regular season opener, 1-0, to the Golden Eagles Friday evening from Case Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The two teams battled to a 0-0 first half, as Oral Roberts (1-0-0) held a slim 6-5 advantage in shots over the Cardinals (0-1-0). Santiago Riveros had two of the Golden Eagles' three shots on goals in the half, while Robert Pratt registered the lone shot on goal for UIW.

Two minutes into the second half, ORU's Dante Brigida broke the scoreless tie.

In the 61^st minute, ORU goalkeeper Thibaut Giquel made two saves, one on Marjan Gansjaeger and a leaping punch out on Ryan Osborne, resulting in a Cardinals' corner kick. Trinidad Luna took the corner and sent in a great ball, but Gansjaeger's header went wide.

In the 86^th minute, UIW keeper Brendan Brown made a fantastic save on a shot by Brigida, as the striker beat the defender and was one-on-one with Brown.

UIW doubled up ORU in shots in the second half en route to leading the shot category, 18-12. There were 11 corner kicks in the match – five by the Cardinals – but neither team could convert.

LEADERS

Four different Cardinals – Gamsjaeger, Luna, Pratt, and Osborne – had a shot on goal apiece. Brown took the loss in goal as he made six saves.

Riveros and Brigida led all players with four shots and three shots on goal apiece. Chris Quintero had the other shot on goal for the Golden Eagles. Giquel made four saves for the win.
