SAN ANTONIO, Texas – University of the Incarnate Word Interim Athletic Director
Mark Papich announced Thursday that
Amanda Gamboa will not return as the department's head softball coach.
"We appreciate all of the hard work and effort that Coach Gamboa has put forth over the last eight seasons," Papich said. "She has been a valued member of our community and we wish her all the best."
The Cardinals went 13-40 in 2017, with a 6-21 mark in Southland Conference play. The team closed out the season by winning four of its final five contests, including a doubleheader sweep over SWAC regular season champion, Texas Southern, and a series victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Gamboa started as an assistant coach for the Cardinals, before taking over the program in 2013. She compiled a record of 94-170 in five seasons at the helm of UIW softball.
A national search for Gamboa's replacement will begin immediately.
