ARLINGTON, TX – It was another difficult day for the University of the Incarnate Word softball team as they were unable to snap their seven game losing streak on Saturday. In the first game of the day, UIW fell 7-3 to Saint Francis followed by an 11-3 defeat against UT- Arlington.
 
Sarah Leal got the start for the Cardinals (4-14, 0-0) and she struggled early on giving up five runs in the first two innings. In the first, the Red Flash jumped out to an early lead after Hayley Norton hit a three run homer. In the second, Saint Francis added two more highlighted by an RBI single from Kindra Witthus.
 
In the fifth, the Cardinals were able to get on the board when 
Mikaela Flores hit a two RBI double down the left field line to score 
Marcela Lopez and 
Victoria Bratcher to make the score 5-2. The Red Flash added two more in the bottom of the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 7-2. In the seventh, 
Kellen Robles scored the Cardinal's third and final run of the day after a fielding error on Saint Francis.
 
Leal pitched the full 6.0 innings allowing seven runs, six earned on seven hits. Ethel Santai picks up her fifth victory of the season after going 7.0 innings giving up just two earned runs on seven hits. Flores led the Cardinals with two RBI and Lopez and Robles also had good games with two hits and a run scored each. Norton led the Red Flash with the big three run homer.
 
In the second game of the day, the Cardinals could not over come a big fourth inning from the Mavericks. UT- Arlington jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. However, UIW responded in the third by scoring three runs to tie the ball game highlighted by a two RBI single from 
Brigitte Gauvin.
 
The Mavericks took a one run lead in the in the bottom of the third inning, and they tacked on five more runs in the fourth to take a commanding 9-3 lead. The scoring finished in the fifth as UT- Arlington scored two more runs to make the final score 11-3.
 
Danielle Ramirez went 3-3 at the dish and Gauvin had two RBI. Bratcher and Flores also added two hits. Reagan Wright led the Mavericks with three RBI. 
Joanna Valencia is charged with the loss after going 3.2 innings and allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits. Sam Montes picks up her third win of the season for the Mavericks as she went 3. Innings giving up three earned runs.
