Houston, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team had a difficult day at the plate as the Cardinals dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader against Houston Baptist at Husky Field.
In the first game, UIW (5-29, 1-11) started strong after
Alex Alonzo doubled down the left field line scoring
Mikaela Flores to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In the second inning, the Huskies tied the game when Kay Schroeder reached on a fielders choice scoring Libby Brown.
Lacie Stevens gave the Cardinals the lead in the forth when she singled to center field giving UIW a 2-1 advantage. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Houston Baptist would rally scoring two runs to get the walk off victory.
Bridget Stein is charged with the loss after going 6.1 innings allowing just two earned runs on six hits. Emily Mueller gets the win after a complete game four hit performance.
The Huskies carried the momentum into the second game and they scored three runs in the first inning to take command early. The Cardinals struggled to get anything going offensively with five hits in the ballgame.
Houston Baptist added another run in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 win in game two.
Sarah Leal got the start but lasted just 0.2 innings giving up three earned runs on four hits.
Jessica Rodriguez finished the game going 5.1 innings allowing just four hits and one earned run. Shae Bibby got the complete game shutout allowing only five hits.
Kellen Robles lead the Cardinals with two hits while Nicole Shedd went 2-3 with an RBI for Houston Baptist.
