Results

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Despite only having the required minimum number of five fencers due to injuries, the University of the Incarnate Word men's fencing team won its first dual meet in program history against Hunter College, 14-13, at the Vassar Invitational Nov. 12.

Forfeiting 12 bouts out of 27, the Cardinals could only lose one bout to register their first-ever dual meet victory. Junior walk-on Luis Vergara came through with only one loss in the sabre event.

The Cardinal men were led individually by two-time NCAA National Championship Finalist, senior Alexander Sless, with a record of 18 wins and only 3 losses.

The Women's Fencing Team won three team matches against Queens College, Hunter College and City College of New York.

The Women's Epee Squad went undefeated in their eight matches.

The Cardinal women saw NCAA National Championship Finalist, sophomore Myrka Boyd, post a stellar 19-1 record.

The Cardinal Fencing Team welcomes interested students to try out for the Fencing Squad. For more information, contact Coach John Moreau at: jamoreau@uiwtx.edu.
