HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team is back on the road for competition this week. The Cardinals are set to play Sam Houston State University on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The squad will then travel to Abilene for a Saturday matchup against Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. in the Moody Coliseum.
OPENING SET
UIW is coming off of a three set victory over Lamar in the battle of the Cardinals. The team is now 4-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Sam Houston comes into the match on an eight game winning streak. The Bearkats currently lead the Southland with a 7-0 record and are 11-9 overall. In a non-conference game against Prairie View A&M University, Sam Houston registered 42 kills and 13 errors for a .271 attacking percentage to sweep its opponents in three.
Abilene Christian is 2-5 in conference play and 6-13 overall. The Wildcats suffered a tough four set loss to Houston Baptist in their last match. Before facing UIW, ACU will host Texas A&M Corpus-Christi.

Summary: The Wildcats finished third in the Southland last season with a 11-5 conference record and 12-19 overall. The team was not able to outlast the Houston Baptist attack and dropped its last match in four sets on October 14.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the fifth matchup all-time between the two schools as Sam Houston State Currently leads the series with three wins over the Cardinals' one. Last year, the Bearkats defeated the Cardinals 3-1 in the McDermott Center. UIW will face Sam Houston again on Saturday Nov. 11 in the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals and the Wildcats are prepared for their ninth all-time matchup. UIW currently leads the series 5-3. Abilene Christian will visit the McDermott Center on Nov. 9 for its last battle of the season against the Cardinals.
