Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team walked away from a double overtime game with a 0-0 tie against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at Benson Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Cardinals (0-3-1) held control of the ball early on in the game and kept it mostly on their side of the field for the first five minutes of the game.
Ana Campa (San Antonio/MacAurther HS) took the first shot for the Cardinals from about the ten yard line in the eleventh minute but it was just wide. One minute later Campa took another shot off a corner kick but again, it went wide.
Â
The Vaqueros (3-1-1) quickly started making moves, taking a total of 28 shots in the game, eight of them being on goal. The Cardinals took only ten shots, one of them being on goal.
Â
UIW was missing freshman
Annika Fields (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) in today's game due to the red card she received last game which prevented her from playing against UTRGV. Â Additionally, a yellow card was given to sophomore
Emily Halal (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) in this afternoon's game in the start of the second half when Halal ran into an opponent who was dribbling the ball up the field for a shot.
Â
Though the Cardinals' offense couldn't quite make a shot past the UTRGV goalkeeper, their defense was noteworthy. Goalkeeper,
Sydney Huntsinger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) made eight great saves throughout the game and played the entire 110 minutes. Â In the second overtime, Huntsinger tapped the ball away from the top post with one hand to push it over the net and avoid allowing the Vaqueros to score. Â She was also assisted by teammates
Kylie Allison (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS),
Taylor Husfeld, and Anna Rodriguez (Athens/Athens HS) in the last ten minutes of the regular period second half, blocking and heading away.
Â
The Cardinals will look to get on the win column when they host UTEP this Friday at Benson Stadium, at 7:00 p.m.
