BUFFALO, NEW YORK--The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team gave up a goal in the 59
th minute to the University of Buffalo to drop the Sunday morning match 1-0 at UB Stadium.
The Cardinals (0-4) have now dropped back-to-back 1-0 games, and have yet to score in the 2016 season. Â In this game, UIW did take 10 shots during the game, while the undefeated Bulls (4-0) took 13.
The first half saw both teams see a few scoring opportunities but nothing clear. The teams went into halftime with a 0-0 score. But just like in the Cardinals' previous game, the beginning of the second half didn't go their way. In the 59
th minute, Russell Cicerone scored his seventh goal of the season, which is tops in the nation.
Right after the Bulls took the lead, UIW tried getting even.
Miguel Ojeda (Mesquite/Lone Star HS) took a shot in the 62
nd minute but Joseph Kuta came up with the save to prevent the 1-0 lead. Then in the 69
th minute,
Thomas Bibby (Bagillt, Wales/Flint HS) once again took a shot that Kuta would save from finding the net.
The game saw five yellow cards, three for the Bulls and two for UIW, while
Fernando Laverde (Frisco/Liberty HS) received a red card in the 88
th minute.
The Cardinals have two road games remaining in their rough five-game stretch of playing away from home before coming back to San Antonio for five straight home games. Their next game is Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they'll face Oral Roberts at 7:00 p.m. These two teams matched up in their first game of the 2016 season, and the Golden Eagles came on top 2-0. Â Â
