Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball snapped a five match losing streak on Wednesday evening after defeating Prairie View A&M (4-10, 3-1 SWAC) for the second time this season. The Cardinals (5-10, 1-2 SLC) won the match 3-1 and now move to 2-2 away from the McDermott Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals accumulated an impressive 62 kills for the match with a .299 hitting percentage to over power the Prairie View defense. The depth of the UIW attack was on full display as three Cardinals reached double-digit kills and six players had at least five kills.
The Cardinals started the match with a 25-17 set victory over the Lady Panthers and the team posted 17 kills and a .560 hitting percentage during the frame.
Emily Waller jumped out to a quick start with five kills to set the tone for the Cardinals.
Next, the UIW carried the momentum into the second set as they edged out a 26-24 victory to take a 2-0 match lead. Although the Cardinals posted a .128 hitting percentage in the set, the Lady Panthers had 11 errors which helped UIW extend their match lead.
The Lady Panthers were able to sneak out the third after they had 14 kills and a .355 attacking percentage to take their only set of the night. To conclude the action, the Cardinals were able to win the fourth set 25-21 for their fifth victory of the season.
LEADERS
Emily Waller led the UIW attack with a season high 14 kills and a .407 hitting percentage. Waller now has double digit kill in back to back matches.
Shaina Garza had a season high 13 kills and
Autumn Lockley added 11 kills and a .400 attacking percentage.
Sierra Moses led the team with 28 assists and
Madison Williams contributed 25.
Brittany Muller had a season high 22 digs while
Sarea Alexander had three of the team's five blocks.
Taylor Goudeau led the Lady Panthers with 19 kills and a .395 hitting percentage while Erica Jimenez played well with 19 assists.
