SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team will host Central Arkansas on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Benson Stadium after playing the Bears on the road last Sunday and finishing the game in a 1-1 tie.
The Cardinals (1-4-1) started the season in a slump with four losses but have since looked better. They beat Oral Roberts 5-2 on the road, after losing to them 2-0 in San Antonio to start the season. Then they went to Conway, Arkansas to face Central Arkansas and tied 1-1. They will turn right back around and play a rematch on the Cardinals' home turf.
UIW has scored six goals in their last two games after going scoreless in their previous four.
Daniel Nevarez (Las Cruces,NM/Winfrey Academy) and
Thomas Bibby (Bagillt, Wales/Flint) both have a goal and two assists each and it's been six different Cardinals to score every goal this season. Nevarez earned WAC Offensive Player of the Week for his goal and two assists in the 5-2 win at Oral Roberts.
Ben Conway (Wigan, Eng/Hawkley Hall) and
Miguel Ojeda (Mesquite/Lone Star HS) lead the team with 14 and 10 shots, respectively, while both have a goal to their name. Goalkeeper
Jorge Guzman (Duncanville/Duncanville HS) is fourth in the WAC with a save percentage of .750. He has collected 15 saves and allowed five goals in 380 minutes this year.
The Bears (2-2-1) won their first two games by a combined score of 9-0, but have not won since. They lost their next two games and tied 1-1 against UIW. They've scored 12 goals and only allowed six. Their leading scorer is Niklas Brodacki, who has scored five times this season, and both, Wes Carson and Chris Holmes have scored three apiece.
