Cardinals And Bears Tie 1-1 In Arkansas

CONWAY, ARKANSAS – O'neal Moore's goal in the 79th minute evened the score as the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team drew 1-1 on the road against Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals (1-4-1) were coming off their best game of the season with a 5-2 road win over Oral Roberts. This time, the offense struggled to get going in the first half. They only took two shots in the first 45 minutes and were unable to score. The Bears (2-2-1) on the other hand, were able to get 11 shots but Jorge Guzman (Duncanville/Duncanville HS) came up with five saves in the first half to keep the Bears off the board.

After only taking two shots in the first half, the Cardinals' offense got going in the second. They were able to manufacture attacking plays all half, taking an impressive 15 shots. Bears' goalie Marc Olsen stepped up and came up with five big saves in the half and allowing his offense to work. It wasn't until the 68th minute that the Bears found some success. Chris Holmes received a pass from Wes Carson and found the back of the net to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Once the Cardinals found themselves down, Moore (Houston/Alief Taylor) brought them back to life. Thomas Bibby (Bagillt, Wales/Flint) found Moore in the box, who finished to the bottom right corner to tie the game up 1-1. It was Moore's first goal of the season and Bibby's second assist of the weekend.

The game went into overtime where both teams were unable to score to take the lead. The Cardinals took seven shots in overtime, while the Bears only took three. In total, UIW took 24 shots as opposed to UCA's 25. Guzman summed seven saves and only allowed the one goal. Ben Conway (Wigan, Eng/Hawkley Hall) fired six shots on the afternoon, leading the team in shots, but couldn't come up with a goal. Pepe San Roman led the Bears with four shots but also without a goal.

These two teams will face each other again next Friday but this time it will be the Cardinals who host the Bears at Benson Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Live stats will be available through the UIW Athletics website.
