BUFFALO, NEW YORK—The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team heads to Buffalo, NY for a couple of games this weekend. They play Canisius College Friday at 6:00 p.m. and then face the University of Buffalo on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
These two games are part of a five-game stretch in which the Cardinals (0-2) will play on the road. UIW started the season with a pair of losses to two very tough soccer teams. They dropped the season opener 2-0 to Oral Roberts, and then lost 3-0 to SMU on the road, the #12 ranked team in the nation.
The Cardinals have outshot their opponents 24-21 on the year, but have failed to score after two games.
Robert Pratt (Tonbridge, Eng/ Haberdasher Askes Knights Academy) and
Ben Conway (Wigan, Eng/Hawkley Hall) lead the team with six and five shots respectively.
Last season, the Cardinals didn't get their first win until the fourth game of the year and managed an 8-8 overall record. After an 0-2 start, UIW will be looking to get their first win of the season and get their offense going.
Canisius College (0-2) started the 206 season with a pair of 1-goal losses to Binghampton, 2-1, and Buffalo, 1-0. Hakeem Milson scored the lone goal for the Golden Griffins and is third on the team with five shots. Matthew Santos leads the team with eight and Melvin Blair is right behind with seven.
Buffalo (2-0) opened the season with an impressive 9-0 defeat of Daemen last weekend, and then collected their second shutout in as many games when they beat Canisius 1-0. The 2015 Mid-Atlantic Player of the year, Russell Cicerone, leads the Bulls' offense and the entire nation with five goals scored and 12 points just after two games. Buffalo's goalie, Joseph Kuta has turned in two clean sheets and looks to continue that trend.
