Cardinals Head To Central Arkansas For Crain Automotive Classic

CONWAY, ARKANSAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team returns to action on Thursday in the Crain Automotive Classic hosted by Central Arkansas. The Cardinals kick off the tournament at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, then return to action at 3:00 p.m. on Friday against Louisiana-Monroe. On Saturday, UIW continues play with a double header against Oral Roberts and Alcorn State starting at 10:00 a.m. to conclude the tournament.

As a team, the Cardinals are averaging 10.09 kills per set and they have an attacking percentage of .102. Leading the UIW attack is Autumn Lockley (Leander, TX/ Leander) who has led the team in kills for all three matches this season. Lockley is averaging 3.09 kills per set with a .174 attacking percentage while Freshman Emily Waller (Houston, TX/ Cypress Falls) is second on the team with 1.73 kills per set.

Madison Williams (New Braunfels, TX/ Canyon) is directing the Cardinals attack as she leads the team with 5.73 assists per set. Shaina Garza (San Antonio, TX/ Warren) is currently leading the defense with 3.64 digs per set and Sarea Alexander (San Antonio, TX/ MacArthur) is leading the team with 1.45 blocks per set.

Central Arkansas started the 2016 season at the Memphis Invitational and the Sugar Bears went 2-1 in three matches defeating both Memphis and Chicago State University 3-1. In the Preseason SID poll, Central Arkansas was picked to finish third in the Southland Conference.

As a team, the Sugar Bears are averaging 12 kills per set with a .211 attacking percentage. Leading the attack is Senior outside hitter Rachel Sharp who is averaging 2.62 kills per set with a .282 attacking percentage and she had a season high 14 kills her last match against Chicago State. Haley Tippett leads the team defensively with 3.92 digs per set.

Louisiana-Monroe participated in the Tennessee Invitational over the weekend where they dropped all three matches to Middle Tennessee, Tennessee, and Cincinnati. The Warhawks have two more matches before the matchup with the Cardinals on Friday.

Oral Roberts started the 2016 season at the Oklahoma Invitational where they went 1-2 to start the season. In the first three matches, the Golden Eagles are averaging 11.80 kills per set with a .154 attacking percentage. Leading the attack is outside hitter Laura Milos who is averaging 5.60 kills per set with a .227 attacking percentage. Lucija Mikulic is directing the Golden Eagle attack with 9.50 assists per set.
