SAN ANTONIO, TX—The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Texas State in an exhibition game Saturday night at Benson Stadium.
Tonight's contest marks the second preseason match for the Cardinals this season; nearly 48 hours ago, UIW battled cross-town foe UTSA in a 4-0 loss.
Sophomore
Alyssa Amaya (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) put the Cardinals on the board first after finding the back of the net in the 50
th minute.  Amaya shot from 12 yards out and with the ball being defelected by a defender, the ball was sent over the goalie's head.
The Bobcats had many chances to score, but UIW goalkeeper,
Sydney Huntsinger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) came up with 12 saves between the pipes.  She finished the game with 10 saves, and allowed one goal which came in the 82
nd minute of the match.  The scoring play started when Kassi Hormuth took a shot that was saved by Huntsinger, but then the rebound landed in the feet of Clarissa Leon who was able to tap it in for the eventual 1-1 score.
Right before the final whistle, the Bobcats came very close to scoring and winning the game, but
Addie Bachle (San Antonio/Johnson HS) didn't allow it. With just two seconds left on the clock, Maddie Nichols beat Huntsinger to the left side of the goal, but Bachle slid on the line to stop the ball from crossing the goal.
Because it was an exhibition game, the match ended in a draw without overtime or penalty kicks.
The Cardinals took three shots, and two were on goal, while the Bobcats collected 19 shots with 11 being on goal.
UIW will travel to Denton, TX to face North Texas in their first regular season game of the season, Friday at 7:00 p.m.
