CONWAY, ARKANSAS – An 11-run second inning helped the University of Central Arkansas complete a three-game Southland Conference series sweep by defeating the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team by run-rule, 20-4 on Sunday at Bear Stadium.
The Bears (21-23, 12-12 SLC) once again had an offensive outburst against the Cardinals (12-35, 5-19, SLC). They hammered 21 hits and were led by Tyler Langley who had four hits, four RBI's and scored two runs. The team hit .553 in the game and hit two triples and a double. William Hancock had two hits, two runs and drove in four. All but one Bear offensive starter collected a hit.
UIW took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on sacrifice fly from
Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS), but the Bears answered with 11 runs and ended the game after seven innings.
For the Cardinals,
Austin Hoffman (Goodyear, AZ/Millenium HS),
Eddy Gonzalez (Laredo/United HS) and
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) collected two hits each.
Tanner Wall (San Antonio/Johnson HS) drove in two runs while Divelbiss and Kahle drove in the other two runs.
Cody Richey (Fair Oaks/Comfort HS) took the loss for UIW, while Chris Durham earned the win for the Bears with three scoreless innings of relief.
The Cardinals are back in San Antonio for a non-conference road game at UTSA on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
