Men's Tennis Falls to Texas and A&M

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team dropped two road matches against two of the biggest college names in the state, the University of Texas and Texas A&M over the last couple of days.

On Saturday evening, they took on the Longhorns (12-6).  Incarnate Word started strong in the doubles as they earned the point with a first position win from Josip Smoljan (Citluk, Bosnia and Herzegovina/ Srednja Skola) and Francisco Bendana (College Station/New Braunfels HS) against No. 61 Adrian Ortiz and Michel Riechmann, 6-4.  Tucker Brown (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) and Ryan Hoverson (Grand Forks, ND/Red River HS) won by the same score at #3 doubles, but that was all the team could manage. UT came out and dominated the singles matches to take the overall match, 6-1.

On Monday afternoon against the No.7 Aggies (20-5), A&M opened by taking the doubles point as Bendana and Smoljan fell 6-2 and Brown and Hoverson dropped a 6-3 match. Joey Vatanadilok (San Antonio/Bridgeway Academy) claimed the only Cardinal point with a 7-5, 6-4 win at #2 singles.  Texas A&M took the match by a 6-1 score.

The Cardinals will return back home to take on Abilene Christian on Friday.  The doubles matches will begin at 12 p.m.
