ARLINGTON, TEXAS – UT Arlington never let up against the visiting University of the Incarnate Word baseball team on Saturday and won 13-0 in seven innings at Clay Gould Park to close out the three-game series.
The Mavs (14-11) never let the Cardinals (5-19) have a chance in the game as they scored twice in the second inning, three times in the third and fourth innings and finished it off with five in the fifth inning. Meanwhile, UIW was able to get a runner to third base in the second and third innings, but each time a double play helped end the scoring chance.
UT Arlington pounded out 18 hits, including 15 singles. Matt McLean, RJ Williams, Brady Cox and Quintin Rohrbaugh each had three hits in the contest. McLean scored three times, drove in two and had a triple. Williams scored four times and stole a base. Cox drove in two and scored twice while Rohrbaugh drove in four. Kadon Simmons pitched 5.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts to earn his fifth win of the season. Matt Michalski faced the final six batters and retired each.
The Cardinals finished with five hits on the afternoon.
Tanner Wall went 2-for-3 to lead the offense.
Tyler Lesley was tagged with the loss after allowing nine hits and eight runs in 3.0 innings.
The Cardinals play at home on Tuesday night against UT Rio Grande Valley at 6:30 p.m. at Sullivan Field.
