Women's Basketball Ends Season on the Road

ABILENE, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will be on the road for their last two games of the season. They will be playing Abilene Christian University on Wednesday at 7 p.m., followed by a trip to Houston to face the Houston Baptist University on Saturday for a 12 p.m. tip-off.

Senior Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) and junior Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) have been leading the flock all season.  Adams leads UIW by averaging 29.7 minutes on the court, shooting 76.3 percent from the free-throw line and is posting 12.6 points per game. Williams, with her powerful fourth quarters, barely trails Adams in total points with 299 total points this season.  She also boosts the Cardinals with her 98 total rebounds and 11.5 points per game.  Forward Yvonne Maosa (Arlington/Mansfield HS) is averaging a team high 6.1 rebounds per game. Melina Merritt (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge HS) has made the most starts for the Cardinals this season with 24 and also leads UIW with 77 assists.

Abilene Christian is led by the four- time Southland Conference Player of the Week Alexis Mason and they are in first place in the league.  She is averaging 17.8 points per game, shooting 77 percent from the free-throw line, and has made a team-leading 80 three-pointers.  Sydney Shelstead follows with 14.2 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game, and is making 76.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Houston Baptist (12-14, 7-9) is tied for sixth place in Southland Conference with Nicholls. The Cardinals are looking to even the score this season due to that in their last contest, the Huskies just barely slid past the Cardinals with a 62-61 win.  The pack is fronted by Anna Strickland with 13.3 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.

The Cardinals (6-21, 3-13) and the ACU Wildcats (24-3, 15-1) are the only two teams ineligible for the Southland Conference tournament since they are both still in transition to Division I.
