SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's tennis teams were each in action over the weekend. The men defeated Oral Roberts, 4-2 on Saturday at the UT Arlington Tennis Center while the women lost to Air Force Academy, 5-2 on Sunday.
The men won a hard fought match against the Golden Eagles. The top two doubles teams of

Sebastian Mortier and
Josip Smoljan/
Francisco Bendana each won 6-2 to take the doubles point.
Oral Roberts tied the score at 1-1 when Jan Pehnec won the #3 singles match in straight sets, but the Cardinals quickly regained control after Vatanadilok won 6-3, 7-6 (5) at #2 singles. Mortier and
Ryan Hoverson each won their singles matches in three sets to clinch the match for the Cardinals. Hoverson nabbed the winning point on a third set tie-breaker at #6 singles, 10-8.
The UIW women were not as fortunate as the men. Air Force was able to take the doubles point by winning the #2 and #3 matches by identical 6-2 scores.
The Cardinals picked up their two points in singles play.
Rachel Sadiq topped Mary Meyers at the #1 spot by a 6-2, 6-2 score and
Sarah Savedra knocked off Lily Forlini at #4 singles by a 6-4, 6-4 tally. Air Force won the final four points on straight set wins.
The men's team is off until March 11 while the women have three straight Southland Conference away matches on March 4, 5, 6.
