Box Score HOUSTON, TX – Autumn Lockley's 17 kills was not enough as the University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team lost to Houston Baptist in five sets on Thursday night in Sharp gym. The Cardinals have their two match-winning streak snapped and the team falls to 4-5 on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals (11-17, 7-8 SLC) started off strong with an opening set victory, as
Sarea Alexander was able to knock down a powerful kill to give UIW the 25-21 set win. Alexander led the Cardinals with four kills to start the match.
In both the second and third sets, the Huskies were able to edge out victories by the score of 25-21 to take a 2-1 match lead forcing the Cardinals to win the fourth set.
Midway through the fourth frame, the set was tied 16-16 when the Cardinals came alive. UIW was able to score to score nine out of the final 11 points to win the period 25-18 and force a fifth set.
In the final set, the Cardinals trailed 13-12 and the Huskies were able to get two out of the final three points to win the set 15-13 and get their ninth Southland Conference Victory of the season.
LEADERS
Lockley once again led the Cardinals with 17 kills and 13 digs while
Shaina Garza also had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Alexander and
Bryaunea Hall each added seven kills and
Madison Williams directed the UIW attack with 33 assists.
Claudia Hernandez led the Cardinals defense with 23 digs and Lockley finished with a team high three solo blocks. The Cardinals had 50 kills with a .130 attacking percentage.
Melissa Fuchs led the Huskies with 14 kills and 11 digs and Bailey Banks added 10 kills and 14 digs. Kayla Armer led the team with 35 assists and a team high 18 digs.
