Cardinals Head Out West For Pair Of Conference Games

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After picking up a huge 2-1 Western Athletic Conference win against UNLV, the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team will travel out west for a pair of conference games against CSU Bakersfield and San Jose State on Friday at 9 p.m. and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. respectively.

OPENING KICK

The Cardinals (3-5-2, 1-1-1 WAC) opened WAC play with a 4-2 loss to Air Force at home, but then tied 1-1 against UMKC and beat UNLV 2-1. All three games were at home, but now UIW will play five of their last seven games on the road.

The Spartans' only win this season came over a month ago when they beat Pacific 3-2 on Oct. 28. They are averaging 0.92 goals per game despite being ranked third in the conference in shots per game, 11.8, and are giving up 2.08 goals per game. They are ranked first with 70 saves on the year.

Summary:
The Cardinals struggled offensively in the beginning of the season, but are now averaging 1.3 goals per game. Their 13.9 shots per game rank fifth in the conference. Ryan Osborne and Ronan Fournier both scored in their 2-1 win and Osborn has now scored two goals in his last two games and has collected at least point in his last three.

SERIES HISTORY

UIW and CSU Bakersfield have played each other three times, and the Cardinals have won all three, with the last one being last year when UIW won 3-2 at Benson Stadium.
The Cardinals have played San Jose State twice and the series is tied 1-1. UIW won in 2014 1-0 in San Jose, and lost 2-1 in 2015 at home.

UP NEXT

The Cardinals have a pair of WAC games the following weekend; they will host Seattle U on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. and then will go on the road to battle Grand Canyon on Oct. 23 at 9 p.m.

STAY TUNED

The Cardinals will go on the road for two more WAC games against UTRGV and Houston Baptist on Oct. 27 and 30, respectively.
