TULSA, OKLAHOMA – An early foul in the box in the first minute of the game caused the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team to suffer a 1-0 defeat at Oral Roberts University on Friday at Case Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Golden Eagles (1-1-1) took advantage of the foul in the box. Matthew Rogers converted a penalty kick in only the second minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead which would prove to be enough for the win.
The Cardinals (1-1) were held to only a total of seven shots, four in the first half and three in the second. For ORU, Ben Lacourse and Hunter Harrison split time at goal and kept UIW off the board. They had two saves each in the win.
The rematch of last Saturday night's game in which the Cardinals defeated ORU 3-0 turned out to be very physical. The game saw 16 fouls combined, four yellow cards and a red card for UIW's
Dylan Kelly (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic HS) leaving the Cardinals down a man for the final 20 minutes.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Cardinals 13-7, and attempted five shots on goal, while only allowing four to UIW. For the visiting Cardinals,
Kieran O'Boyle (Blackpool, Eng./St. Mary's Catholic College) kept the team in the game by making a number of key saves.
Noah Keats (Exeter, Eng./The King's School) and
Dylan Kelly both had two shots each and one on goal.
Alex Hoyl (Dallas/Highland Park HS),
Ben Conway (Wigan, Eng./Hawkley Hall) and
Miguel Ojeda (Mesquite/Lone Star HS) had the rest of the shots for the Cardinals.
UIW will try to bounce right back as they head to Conway, Arkansas to face Central Arkansas, Sunday at noon.
