TULSA, OKLAHOMA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team leaves on their first regular season road trip of the season this weekend. They head to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take on Oral Roberts on Friday at 7 p.m., and then make their way to Conway, Arkansas to face Central Arkansas on Sunday at noon.
The Cardinals (1-0) opened the 2015 regular season with an impressive 3-0 victory over Oral Roberts on Saturday at Benson Stadium. After losing both games to the Golden Eagles in 2014, UIW will look to return the favor and sweep the season series.
Noah Keats (Exeter, Eng/The King's School) and
Jonathan Camarena (El Paso/Del Valle HS) collected a goal and an assist each, while
Ben Conway (Wigan, Eng/Hawkley Hall) also added a goal in their first win of the season.
The Golden Eagles (0-1-1) are part of the Summit League and they were picked to finish fourth in the conference in the preseason poll. They finished with an overall record of 8-8-2 last year including two wins against the Cardinals, a 2-1 win in San Antonio and a 3-2 victory in Tulsa. The Golden Eagles played a scoreless tie on Tuesday while visiting Missouri State. ORU attempted seven shots and two on target, while allowing 13 shots to the Bears and six on target.
Central Arkansas (0-2) will benefit from seven returning starters from their 2014 season, in which they finished 3-13-1 overall and 0-5-1 in conference play. They are part of the Missouri Valley Conference and they were picked to finish last in this year's preseason poll. They have played two games this season and they have been outscored 6-0, a 1-0 loss to the University of Delaware and a 5-0 defeat to nationally ranked University of Maryland-Baltimore County. The Cardinals are 4-2-1 all-time against the Bears.
