NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team dropped a second straight road Southland Conference game on Monday night at Stephen F. Austin, 83-62 at the Johnson Coliseum.
The Cardinals (17-9, 9-7) stayed closed to the Lumberjacks (25-4, 15-1) for the majority of the first half, but the home team pulled ahead 35-25 at half time when they scored the final two buckets of the period. In the second half, Jacob Parker hit a three-pointer on SFA's first possession and they never looked back as UIW could not get closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
UIW was doubled up on the glass for a second straight game. SFA had 14 offensive rebounds that led to 18 points while the Cardinals had two offensive rebounds that went for two points. SFA also did a good job of keeping UIW from getting easy transition baskets as they finished with no fast break points.
The Cardinals shot 44.9 percent from the field, made 6-of-12 from three-point range and were 12-of-16 at the foul line.
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) led the team with 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor and an 8-for-10 performance at the foul line.
Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy-Falls HS) added 12 points off the bench while
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) chipped in with 10 points.
The Lumberjacks shot 45.9 percent from the field, made 6-of-20 from three-point range and were 21-of-22 at the charity stripe. Thomas Walkup had another big game with 23 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists while making all 12 of his free throws. Parker finished with 14 points, all in the second half. They had 18 assists and only committed 12 turnovers while forcing the Cardinals into 15 turnovers.
UIW has their final home game of the season on Thursday when they host Abilene Christian at 8 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
