BEAUMONT, TEXAS – Lamar University's Montagne Center will be the site of a Southland Conference basketball doubleheader between Cardinals on Saturday. Lamar hosts University of the Incarnate Word for a women's game at 4 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 6 p.m.
The UIW women enter the game with a 5-21 record and a 2-13 mark in the conference. They lost at Stephen F. Austin on Thursday. The Cardinals are averaging 57.2 points per game and shooting 38.3 percent from the field this season.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) leads the team with 13.5 points per game. Freshman
Jazmine Holman (Arlington/Arlington Bowie HS) is contributing 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
The Lamar women are one of the top teams in the conference with a 12-4 record and they are 15-12 overall. They are averaging 70.9 points per game and shooting 40.8 percent from the field. JaMeisha Edwards is the team's leading scorer with 15.7 points and 2.5 steals per game while knocking down 52 three-pointers. Dominique Edwards is scoring 12.2 points per game and leads the team with 8.1 rebounds per game. Baileigh O'Dell chips in with 10.3 points per game and has made 50 three-pointers. Lamar won the first meeting between the two teams, 67-45.
The UIW men are trying to finish the year strong and have won eight of their last 10 games. They are 17-7 overall and 9-5 in the conference while averaging 81.7 points per game. Senior
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) is in a virtual three-way tie for first in the nation in scoring with 22.7 points per game. He is also seventh in the nation with 2.7 steals per game while adding 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest.
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43.6 percent from three-point range. Freshmen
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) and
Traylin Farris (Pearland/Manvel HS) are scoring 15.4 and 10.6 points per game, respectively.
The Lamar men are 14-13 overall and 8-7 in the conference. They are scoring 71.7 points per game and have an excellent guard-big man combo in Anthony Holliday and Tyran de Lattibeaudiere. Holliday is averaging 14.1 points and 3.4 assists per game while de Lattibeaudiere is averaging 13.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game and has blocked 56 shots. UIW won the first matchup between the two teams, 78-72 in San Antonio.
