SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team hits the hardwood again on Monday night at 7 p.m. against Southland Conference rival Houston Baptist University at the McDermott Center.
This will be the first of two matchups between the two squads this year. The Cardinals (16-7, 8-5) are fresh off a nice win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday and could match last season's conference win total with a victory.
UIW is among the top scoring teams in the nation at 81.9 points per game. They are led by super senior
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) who leads the nation with 23.0 points per game. He is also sixth with 2.7 steals and chips in with 6.1 rebounds and over three assists per game. Junior
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) scored his 1,000
th career point on Saturday and is averaging 15.0 points and a team high 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting 42.0 percent from three-point range.
The Cardinals also have a pair of freshmen who are averaging in double figures.
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) was back on the court on Saturday after missing the two previous games with an injury. He is scoring 15.7 points per game and leads the conference in foul shooting at 87.1 percent.
Traylin Farris (Pearland/Manvel HS) has been playing very well as of late and is averaging 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 59.9 percent from the floor.
The Huskies (11-12, 6-7) have been off since last Monday. They have lost three of their last four games. Anthony Odunsi leads the team with 12.5 points per game while Colter Lasher is scoring 10.7 per game. Josh Ibarra is the top rebounder and shot blocker with 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. Last year, the Cardinals defeated the Huskies in overtime in San Antonio.
