SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word Women's basketball team is set to begin a three game road trip on Thursday as the team travels to West Lafayette, IN to take on the Purdue Boilermakers in the first meeting between the two schools. The action starts at 7:00 p.m. at Mackey Arena.
         
The Cardinals (3-4) are coming off a 67-51 loss against Houston on Monday night in the McDermott Center.  Heading into Thursday night's contest against Purdue, Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) leads the Cardinals in scoring with 11.3 points per game followed by Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) who is averaging 11.0 points per contest while shooting 38.4 percent from the floor.  Melina Merritt (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge HS) is directing the Cardinals offense and she is leading the team in assists averaging three a game. Leading the team in rebounding is Yvonne Maosa (Arlington/Mansfield HS) who is averaging 5.9 rebounds per game despite only playing 15.9 minutes per contest.
         
As a team, the Cardinals are averaging 60.1 points per game while shooting 38.3 percent from the field.  They average just over four three point field goals per game and they are shooting 25.4 percent from downtown.  The Cardinals have a slight rebounding edge over their opponents on the season.
The Boilermakers have started the season with a 6-2 record and have impressive wins over LSU and Louisville.  In their last game out, Purdue defeated Dayton, 61-58 and they are 3-1 when playing in Mackey Arena this season.

The Boilermakers have three players that average double-digits in scoring and they are led by senior guard April Wilson who is averaging 15.3 points a game while shooting 43.0 percent from the field.  Briget Perry and Ashley Morrissette are the other two leading scorers for Purdue as they are both averaging just over 11 points each. Perry leads the team in rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per contest and Wilson leads the team with 5.0 assists per game.  Wilson and Morrissette have combined for 32 of the team's 41 three pointers made this season as they each have connected 16 times from beyond the arc.
