SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will try to get back on the winning track on Monday against University of Houston at 6 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (3-3) have lost their last two games, but were able to defeat the Cougars last year in Houston. UIW is averaging 61.7 points per game while shooting 38.5 percent from the field.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) leads the team with 11.7 points and 2.2 steals per game while grabbing 5.0 rebounds per contest. The team has four players averaging between five and six rebounds per game.
Defensively, the Cardinals are holding the opposition to 58.0 points per game and 36.9 percent shooting. The team is forcing the same amount of turnovers as they have committed this year.
The Cougars (2-5) are fresh off a 62-59 win at Rice on Saturday. They have played a tough schedule this season with their first six opponents combining for a 34-10 record. Serithia Hawkins leads the team with 10.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Alecia Smith is averaging 8.9 points per game and leads the team with 14 three-pointers and 23 assists. As a team they are averaging 56.0 points per game while shooting 35.3 percent from the field. They allow 61.9 points per game and 39.4 percent shooting.
