SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team travels to Southland Conference rival Abilene Christian University on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. start.
The Cardinals (3-9, 1-2) split a pair of five-set matches last week at home against Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State. They will try to pick up their first away conference victory of the season against the Wildcats (1-15, 1-2). Last year, the Cardinals won a pair of five-set matches against Abilene Christian.
The Cardinals are averaging 11.96 kills per set with a .161 attack percentage. Freshman
Autumn Lockley (Leander/Leander HS) leads the team with 2.53 kills per set and is second on the team with 2.58 digs per set. Middle Blocker
Sarea Alexander (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) is the most efficient attacker on the team with a .240 attack and 1.64 kills per set.
Bryaunea Hall (Copperas Cove/Copperas Cove HS) and
Claudia Hernandez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) lead the defense. Hall has 0.79 blocks per set and Hernandez has 3.55 digs per set.
Taylor McClelland (Cypress/Cypress Ranch HS) has been the team's best setter with 5.26 assists per set this season.
The Wildcats recorded their first win of the season last week. They are averaging 11.62 kills per set with a .141 attack percentage. Jennifer Loerch leads the team with 3.33 kills per set on a .124 attack. Lauren Walker has been a strong second option with 2.09 kills per set, a .280 attack and 0.90 blocks per set. Lexi Mercier leads the team with 0.97 blocks per set and Sarah Siemens directs the attack with 8.84 assists per set.
